Exhibit: Another Reason to Have a Party, Oct 22 – Nov 30 @ GoDown


The GoDown visual artists’ joint exhibition dubbed “Another Reason to Have a Party” officially opens this Saturday 22nd of October at 2.00pm at The GoDown Arts Centre. It is set to run until 30th November 2011. The exhibition aims to celebrate the inspirational creative energy that has resulted from the collaboration of established and upcoming artists this year. These works include oil paintings, soapstone and wood sculptures, metalwork and mixed media pieces. Entry is free!

Rhoda Ondeng, Harald Bjorkoy & Geir Botnen Recital, Oct 23 2011 @ Michael Joseph Centre

The recital will be held by three wonderful musicians from Norway. All three are sterling performers and it promises to be a wonderful afternoon. Tickets are Kshs 500/- . As space is limited, booking your tickets in advance is advisable.

 

The Performers

 

Rhoda Ondeng our very own soprano who has been making waves in Europe for the past 30 years. She has sang with many classical symphony orchestras and musicians in Europe, particularly in Scandinavia. Her most cherished honour was being given the opportunity to sing at the inaugural award ceremony for the late Wangari Maathai at the Nobel Peace Prize award in 2004.

 

Geir Botnen is one of Norway’s most renowned pianists. He has been a soloist with a number of symphony orchestras both in Norway and in the USA, playing under well-acclaimed Maestros like Alan Gilbert, Arvid Jansons, Dmitri Kitayenko and Edward Serov. Geir’s recordings of the Norwegian composer Tveitt have received superb reviews.

 

Harald Bjorkoy made his debut as a singer in 1982 and has been singing concerts in Europe and in the USA where in 1991 he made his debut at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall New York. He has performed many opera roes at the Norwegian Opera and sings frequently with Norwegian regional opera companies and symphony orchestras. He is a prive winner of many international song contests and has receivd the Grieg Prize for his performance and recordings of Edvard Grieg’s songs. Harald is professor in singing at the Grieg Academy at Bergen University.

Concert / Charity: Twa choir, Oct 21-23 2011 @ Prestige Plaza – 4th floor

The TWAkutukuza trust brings the Twa choir back for their annual cancer fund-raising concert this Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd October 2011 at Prestige Plaza-4th Floor (Ngong Rd). Tickets Kshs. 500 are available at Barton stores (prestige, junction, westgate and village market), New Day (Yaya Centre), Biblica Bookshop (Dennis Pritt Rd and Reinsurance Plaza).

The ensemble choir will feature Neema Ntalel, Angie Gachui, Andy Mburu and Webi among others.
Proceeds will go toward facilitating the treatment of cancer patients who cannot afford the treatment.
