This fundraising evening will be specially dedicated to the production and logistics for the upcoming 5TH NAIROBI FESTIVAL OF SOLOS AND
DUETS-19TH-29TH OCTOBER 2011. A time to meet the dance community, the fans, the audience of the previous four editions of the Nairobi festival of solos and duets, and the new friends and supporters out there.

This is a day that to share in the aspirations of a dance community like no other, to understand our goals and objective, and to discover first hand what has been that driving force.

There will be three dance performances • Poetry by Ndungi  Githuku • Music by Mutinda • Video by DF-N • DF-N t-shirts on sale and many other little surprises on auction and raffle.

Album Launch/Concert: Sven Kacirek-The Kenya Sessions, Sept. 16 2011 @ Goethe

For five weeks in 2009, Germany‘s electronic music virtuoso Sven Kacirek from Hamburg travelled back and forth across Kenya, equipped with his audio recorder. The result is a musical road movie: from Lake Victoria in Nyanza to the Kenyan coast. His album The Kenya Sessions features some of the best Kenyan musicians such as the legendary Dodo singer Ogoya Nengo, the multiinstrumentalist Raymond Mackenzie, the orchestras of Jack Nyadundo, Ali Khamed and Swaleh Mwatela, the Nyatiti players Okumo Korengo and Owino Koyo, and many others.

The album has been released and is getting international acclaim; it received a nomination for the prestigious German Record Critics‘ Award 2011! In Kenya, Daily Nation stated: „This is surely the way of the future. What emerges retains a Kenyan ‚creative soul’ but has a captivating freshness to it.”

Now Sven Kacirek returns to Kenya to present the album to the Nairobi audience in a solo concert

Sarakasi Trust in conjunction with the Norwegian Embassy are hosting peace events dubbed Amani Lazima (Peace is A must!).

Amani Lazima is a monthly event which has been held from December 2010 and and will go on until November 2011. It has had events in some of the major slums in Nairobi. So far Amani Lazima has successfully covered Korogocho, Mathare, Kangemi, Kawangware, Kibera, Dandora ,Majengo and Huruma.

Together with on the ground stakeholders and (grassroots) youth organizations the aim is to approach the youth of the informal settlements and involve them in activities that are designed to reach out to interest the youth, create a positive attitude, generate self-esteem, promote peace and understanding, a feeling of ownership and to empower the youth on issues like entrepreneurship, violence, gender issues, etc.
