An exhibition of original film posters, window and lobby cards with descriptions of feature films and theatrical documentaries shot in Kenya between 1931 and 1975.

Movie stars including Clarke Gable, Ava Gardner, Frank Sinatra, Gregory Peck, Grace Kelly and Sean Connery have all been on location in Kenya for big budget Hollywood films.

This is the return of Makadem to the Alliance Française de Nairobi, the place that catapulted his career to the international stage, and where he calls “home”. He returns with his unique “Benga Flava” style which fuses Kenyan and other African music, as well as some international genres, into his native Benga Beats, giving it a fresh and broadly contemporary feel.

‘Faso Funky’ brings together Burkinabé and Belgian musicians around groovy funk and West African rhythms. The bassist, Achille Ouattara, whose musical origins are situated in gospel and Mandinka music, will be joined by the drummer Moise Ouattara, the guitarist Désiré Somé and the Belgian violinist and pianist Renaud Crols.

Together, they bring diverse musical influences: Indian, gypsy, African, hip-hop/dance hall, rock, gospel, jazz… offering a funky, warm and lively repertoire that will have you on your feet.
