A Public Discussion by Jay Patel following his photographic exhibition “Life, Death, Hope & Freedom”

In the ongoing exhibition at Kuona Trust, Jay Patel, a photographer exploring the darker side of humanity, has put together an imaginative collection of staged photographs using wooden dolls to enact everyday violent situations in an attempt to interrogate the reasons we inflict pain on each other.
He will chair a public forum to discuss his photographic practice while letting us in on his process, technique and intended result.
It will also be a forum to discuss the different ways in which photography can be approached.
Classical Evening’s Club, Aug. 11 2011 @ National Museum
This Thursday 11th August 2011, at the National Museum of Kenya, Louis Leakey Auditorium. The Art of Music (Classical Evenings club) will be hosting Kenya Vocal Teachers Association (KEVTA) in conjunction with Wynton House of Music for an evening of spiritual music.
Kenya Vocal Teachers Association is a group of teachers whose main aim is to train, educate and uplift the standards of vocal music in Kenya. KEVTA plays an important role in “educating the voice teacher of tomorrow” and in breaking down barriers between voice teachers and those in related disciplines by encouraging a free exchange of ideas about the principles of good singing and the practices of sound vocal pedagogy.

During a two year journey around the world, the experts Alexandra Novosseloff and Frank Neisse visited people living near barriers built to separate them from their neighbors. Through the testimonies of people confronted daily with the reality of barriers, the exhibition reveals the impact that they have at a human level.
Exhibit: A Thousand Hills by Bakunzi Jean Bosco, Aug 6-22 2011 @ Banana Hill Art Gallery
Bakunzi Jean Bosco was born on October 30th, 1985 in Kigali, Rwanda. Although he has been influenced by many visual artists, Bakunzi Jean Bosco is self-taught, creating art professionally since 2005. Bakunzi finds inspiration in the natural world, Rwandan culture, and his everyday surroundings. He has been motivated in his career by the belief that art has the power to heal people physically, mentally, and emotionally.
In March, 2010 Bakunzi founded Rwanda’s leading art center, Uburanga Arts Studio. This studio brings together the most skilled and talented artists from all over the country with the goal of developing Rwanda’s fine art scene.
This is his first exhibition in Kenya.
