Call for Artists: Professional and School Groups, Aug. 29 2011 @ Paa ya Paa
Paa ya Paa is calling all creative artists to contribute their ideas on what they love about Africa for an exhibition called “In Love With Africa”.
This exhibition aims to pay tribute to all the beautiful things that we love and cherish in this continent. Let us come together to show our love for Africa in our own unique way to celebrate our common ground.
How can we show that we are “in love” with a continent?
Is it really possible to do this?
What do we love personally about ourselves and our lives that we would like to share with others?
Who are the people in Africa who have inspired us and make us love who we are?
How can we work together to continue to make Africa proud?
Calling on:
Painters, photographers, mixed media artists, sculptors, pottery and ceramic and textile artists, poets, writers, children and adults, all of you artists out there, come forth!!!
Many of you have your own special way of telling a story through art.
The theme is to pay homage to Africa, both in a personal and broader perspective, including personal art stories that make you proud to be African or connected with Africa.
Artists must bring their ready-to-exhibit works or poems and writings to Paa Ya Paa Arts Centre, Paa Ya\ Paa Lane, Ridgeways Road O! Kiambu Road by
Deadline: August 29, 2011
Time: 9am and 5pm.
Come with a short statement about your work as it relates to the above theme. It will accompany your artwork at the exhibition. Works may be for sale or not for sale. If for sale, there will be a 30% deduction against sales to defray costs.
MORE DETAILS
An artist or poet may bring no more than 2 works for the show.
The size of the artworks should not be larger than 1 sq. meter.
The artworks and poetry should be fresh work unless it is a tribute to an African hero/heroine, regardless of ethnicity.
SCHOOL CATEGORIES
We encourage children to participate through their class or art club groups. We would allow you to organize through a teacher and submit what he/she feels are the best entries.

The Kenya Community Centre for Learning (a non-profit school catering to special needs children) is partnering with a number of GoDown based and freelance artists to hold an exhibition dubbed `Art is Our Special Ability’.

Sanctuaryartists.org presents its first international, collaborative, touring exhibition ‘Sanctuary: Home, Away, the Common Ground’ curated by Annabelle Hulbert on behalf of Sanctuary artists. This exhibition is the product of 10 artists, five from Kenya and five from the UK/Ireland.

The aim of the exhibition is to explore the cultural, political, social and environmental differences and commonalities that construct the concept of Sanctuary from the perspective of Home, Away and the Common Ground between Kenya and the UK.
The motivation for the exhibition is to create a platform for dialogue from both representative parties in an effort to highlight the work of the Metropolitan Sanctuary For Sick Children in Nyeri Kenya, in the hope that it will bring awareness to the plight of the many terminally ill and seriously disabled children the charity work with.
