Musical: The Lion King, Jul. 24 2011 @ Starehe Boys Centre
The Lion King is a musical based on the 1994 Disney animated film of the same name with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice. It is a musical in two acts which speaks a story of adventure, love and pride. The audience will experience fantastic music, dancing, acting and drama.
The musical will involve both Starehe Boys and Girls and will take place Friday 22nd July (7pm) Saturday 23rd July (3pm and 7pm) and Sunday 24th July (3pm). Tickets are at a very low price to cover our budget, adults 150/- and children/students 50/-. The musical will take place at Starehe Boys’ Centre. For ticket information listeners should call 6761221 – 4 or 0727531001. Otherwise they will be available on the door. Arrive early to avoid dissapointment.

Spotlight 2011 will draw attention to the lesser known musical traditions of Northern Kenyan communities under the programme ‘Vital Voices and Culture’: Increasing People Participation in Good Governance and Development’ – Arts and Cultural Synergies for the Empowerment of Communities, a programme being implemented by the Ministry of Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs with funding from the European Union.
July concert will feature artists from Loiyangalani, Isiolo and Marsabit showcasing modern pastoralist music as well as introduce to the younger generation the legendary, John Nzenze, whose ‘twist’ musical style is part of the living memory of Kenyan music.

– Acclaimed journalist, author and political activist Barbara Ehrenreich explores the darker side of positive thinking. Ehrenreich studied chemistry at Reed College, graduating in 1963. Her senior thesis was entitled Electrochemical oscillations of the silicon anode. In 1968, she received a Ph.D in cellular biology from Rockefeller University.
