Storymoja Publishers is planning a World Record Attempt on 16th June 2011 at Nyayo Stadium from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. We will be gathering 25,000 Kenyans to break the record for Most People Reading Out  Loud in One Place. The record is currently held by Turkey at 22,000 people. We encourage all Kenyans to attend this event and help smash the stereotype that Kenyans don’t like to read!

Exhibition: The Tana River Delta, Jun. 8-30 2011 @ Alliance

On the occasion of the World Environment Day 2011, Alliance Française de Nairobi will be presenting a photographic exhibition on;

The Tana River Delta: a wetland in the balance

Dates: June 8-30, 2011

The Tana Delta is one of Kenya’s most important wetland systems. The exhibition has been produced by a multidisciplinary French-Kenyan research team of scientists from the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD, UMR PALOC) and the KENWEB (Kenyan Wetlands Biodiversity) Research Team, working together in the Tana Delta. This photographic exhibition will present the diversity and the richness of the natural and cultural heritage of the Tana Delta, the issues related to water and land and the work of the research team.
It will be accompanied by informative text in English and French and by a 25 minutes documentary.

Poetry/Spoken Word: Poetrical, Jun 10 2011 @ Goethe

The project Poetrical is an interdisciplinary and multimedia performance which incorporates African contemporary dance, Hip Hop dance and contemporary dance improvisation, spoken word and visual art. Poetrical was developed by Evanson Ng’ang’a on the basis of his solo contemporary dance piece The Poem which includes spoken words in between the movements. For Poetrical it was enriched by three recitals from different settings, which will be projected during the live performance.

The concept in the poetry is based on personal, local and regional issues, both political and social. The poems deal with their direct influences on humanity at the social level and try to find different perspectives and responses.

Since the evening is centered on poetry, there will be an open Mic for interested poets and also a Hip Hop dance improvisation before the première of Poetrical.
