Mitumba-The Happening is an artistic event set to express on various socio-economic issues in the world of Art. Initially, Mitumba, showcased its unique nature in Germany early this year and now brings its talent and Voice of Change to East Africa. For two days, 8 international artists will showcase a dazzling multi-media performance, using a wave of cultural and contemporary music filled with dance and art. Mitumba makes an effort to speak on combined issues relating to Fashion, Economic Growth and Local Kenyan identity (East Africa).
Dates & Venues: The performance at Kenya National Theatre is set for the 6th of October and Nairobi’s CBD (Tom Mboya Monument) 7th of October, 2013.

BACKGROUND
Mitumba- The Happening is organised by Tuchangamke Group in collaboration with Life Dance International Co. and My Kenyan Eye. It is a status symbol and determinant of individual identity, making use of a theater format combining the interaction and atmosphere of a second-hand market with contemporary dance performance, theater, song and music.

To Wood Not Lost an exhibition by Sanaa Gateja & Charles Kamya

Ugandan artists and craftsmen Sanaa Gateja, called the Bead King and Charles kamya, sculptor, come together in an exhibition where blackcloth, recycled paper and chopper wood are turned into objects of art, craft and fashion.
Sanaa Gateja
Sanaa is an artist with an extraordinary attitude and relationship with material he uses as painter, designer, teacher an innovator. Working on bark cloth and beads made from recycled paper, Sanaa is recognised for his contribution to poverty alleviation by promoting the art of beads from recycled paper among women communities in Uganda.
Charles Kamya
Charles is a self taught sculptor from Rubaga. He worksin albizi wood (Albizia Lebbeck, an exoctic tree called Mkungu in Kiswahili) recovered from villages in Western Uganda as trees are felled for firewood and charcoal. His elegantly carved abstract structures reflect his view of life in Africa.
To Mark the 53rd Nigeria Independence Day Celebration in Kenya the Nigerian High Commission is hosting a joint exhibition of Nigerian and Kenyan Contemporary Artists.

About
Ms. Nam graduated from Young Nam University in South Korea with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A) in 1980 and Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A) in 1986. For eight years she lectured as a Professor of Fine Arts (oil painting and creative art) at Dong-Ah University in South Korea.
In 2001, Ms. Nam visited Kenya for the first time and was so impressed by the people and scenery of Kenya that she began a collection of oil paintings on Kenya, and held her first exhibition of Kenyan paintings in South Korea.
Ms. Nam has been actively painting since she was 15. As a student she won the first prize in a national competition which resulted in her receiving a full scholarship to study art in university. In 2008 Ms. Nam held two exhibitions, “To Kenya” and “Bible painting”; in 2012 she held “London Stories” a collection of paintings of the United Kingdom and Ireland after her travels.
Ms. Nam has exhibited her paintings in over 100 group exhibitions.

The Chinese National Day Reception, the Opening Ceremony of Experience China in Kenya and the Art Performance

Introduction of the art performance: The performance will be presented by China National Acrobatic Troupe (CNAT) with outstanding performances together with fantasy art, Chinese folk songs and dances accompanied by traditional Chinese musical instruments among others.
CNAT was founded in 1950 and is the first national performing arts troupe of China. It has now become one of the best acrobatic circuses boasting the largest scale and the most comprehensive programs in the world. CNAT’s unique talents, mastery and artistic creations have produced a number of acrobatic masterpieces.
So far, it has won 55 Golden Awards at various famous festivals both in China and internationally, including Golden Clown Awards at the International Circus Festivals of Monte-Carlo, the France International Circus Festival of Tomorrow, and the China Acrobatic Festival.
