This exhibition by Samuel Derbyshire in collaboration with the Pit Rivers Museum, Oxford, showcases a selection of historical photographs taken in Turkana at various different times throughout the last century. Prints of these historical photographs were recently brought back to southern Turkana as part of a visual repatriation project, where they were used in interviews and group discussion sessions to explore the recent history of the region at various different locations.The exhibition also encompasses photographs taken during this recent project, showing the historical photographs being discussed by the friends and relatives of the people they contain.

What does an exhibits designer do after retirement? Patrick Milenye Adoyo knows exactly what he wants to do and that is to make a career out of his greatest passion – art. The former head of Exhibits section of the National Museums of Kenya is not new to the art scene having exhibited several times in different spaces locally and internationally. Colourful market scenes and busy baiskols are very Adoyo but it is in the heart warming countryside compositions with cheerful themes that his passion for what he does is most evident. Designing museum spaces and developing exhibitions is as challenging as it is fulfilling, a life skill for the design professional, fine artist, leader, and now elder as he goes out to face his passion.Patrick Adoyo’s exhibition will be at the Banana Hill Art Gallery until July 29 2016.

A Mombasa born artist,the prodigal son returns to his roots.This is Mr Green’s debut exhibition in Mombasa having been exhibiting in other elite spaces elsewhere for the last decade and over.He is best remembered at the Nairobi National Museum by an inspired sleight of hand production titled ‘The Great House of Tsaphenath Paaneah presenting LEGER DEMAIN…!’ in 2011 that featured Jewellery by Taphenes Lydiah, photography by Samir Khan and paintings & sketches by Point Blank & Joseph Allan Green

The exhibition ‘There Are Worlds Out There They Never Told You About’ by Jackie Karuti elaborately introduces the audience to her imagined worlds seemingly set in a galactic and underwater universe. It is a selection from Karuti’s latest work, an impressive collection of drawings, installations, videos, animations and text which depict evidence of other worlds in space, among the stars and perhaps even in the ocean.There exists a myth about an underwater civilization descended from slaves thrown overboard during the middle passage from Africa to the Americas. Where do people who die away from ‘home’ go? What would it mean to migrate or run away to worlds that exist in our imagination? And if the present exists in a way that is not necessarily one in which you have agency, can you perhaps fly away to another time and space?

Muraguri has been working as an artist for 13 years and is mostly recognized for his body of work inspired by ‘matatu’ (Kenyan minibuses and vans that are the main mode of public transport). In this work, Muraguri explores urban culture of contemporary Nairobi. In his sculptures Muraguri works with recycled wood and metal to create a representation of the industrialization in Kenya.
