Ory Okolloh, Google’s head of policy and Government Relations, Africa, and John Kampfner, British Journalist and Freedom of Expression advocate discuss the cultural and social transformative power of the internet and new technologies.

They will be joined by Dr Christian Turner, former Director of the Middle East and North Africa in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Dr Turner is now British High Commissioner to Kenya.

Wangari Maathai Memorial Lecture

The inaugural lecture honoring Kenya’s great Nobel Peace Laureate and Founder of the Green Belt Movement, will be given by Chinese writer and historian Jung Chang.

Jung Chang is the author of Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China (which the Asian Wall Street Journal called the most read book about China), and Mao: The unknown Story (with Jon Halliday).
Chang won the UK Writers’ Guild Best Non-Fiction in 1992 and Book of the year UK in 1993.
Her books have been translated into more than 40 languages and sold more than 15 million copies.

The event organisers have given Nairobi Now 10 tickets for kids 4-12 to give away for this event.

These tickets, otherwise priced at 500ksh per ticket, grant kids ages 4-12 get ALL DAY access to the Kids only area. In this area there will be jumping castles, trampolines, face painting, magic shows, a live Cinderella and Spiderman, etc.as well as creative play activities such as painting, drawing, toys, hula hoops, obstacles etc. Ticket also includes free ice cream and popcorn.

To win a ticket, leave a comment to this blog post by Wednesday August 15th. Nairobi Now will randomly select 10 people for the free ticket, which will then be available at the venue. Participants in this competition will be automatically subscribed to the Nairobi Now weekly newsletter.

Adults and teens get in free at the event. We also have adult and teen activities that are pay are you play but there is no entry fee for adults and teens. It is up to them to choose what activities they want to participate in. There will also be free activities for toddlers age 0 to 3.

About
Dunda Mtaani is a community festival that takes place in various communities within Nairobi. The festival has been running for five years now and has been staged in Korogocho, Kibera, Huruma, Kawangware, Buruburu, Riruta and California.

The aim of this event is to give local youth groups the opportunity to show-case their artistic talents through music, dance and acrobatics, in conjunction with some professional artists.
