The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which teams of filmmakers and aspiring filmmakers have a blast making a movie. All writing, shooting, editing and scoring must be completed in just 48 hours.
In 2013 the 48HFP will visit more than 120 cities where more than 60,000 people will make short films. The Project has truly spread to the four corners of the globe as filmmakers from Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas will compete to see who can make the best short film in a weekend.
On Friday the 29th of November, participating teams will gather at The Michael Joseph Center (HQ2 Waiyaki Way, Westlands) where they will be given a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue they MUST work into their film. Films submitted even 1-minute late on 1st December 2013 will be disqualified.

PRIZE FOR THE WINNING FILM
• The Director of the winning film will receive screenwriting software.
• The top 3 films will be premiered on Shorts TV both locally and internationally: www.shorts.tv
• The Best Film from Nairobi will be awarded a trophy and screened at the 48 Hour Film Project Filmapalooza in 2014. (The 48Hour film Project’s annual awards ceremony)
• The top 12 films globally will screen at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.

Synopsis
YAJI has lost his wife and son to an epidemic and he lives alone in a ramshackle row house, eking out a living sculpting fancy pastries. He is in love with OKINO, a popular local courtesan, but she remains frustratingly beyond his reach.
Okino decides to lie to Yaji, pleading “Help me run away to see my dying father one last time.” Yaji rises to the occasion and proclaims he will engineer her escape from the pleasure quarters and take her to her native village.
Just then, a man appears outside the window. He is KITA, Yaji’s childhood friend. A second-rate actor, Kita has just totally screwed up an important part on stage and has lost his will to live. Kita decides Yaji and Okino’s impending journey is the perfect way out of his predicament and pesters Yaji to let him join them…

How will I pay back the debts I took on during production? How do I make a living with filmmaking in the future, especially now that I have used up all my favours with my family and friends and sponsors?
Words like “exhibition”, “theatrical release”, “VOD” and “Minimum Guarantee” start entering your life and you wonder…. what do those things mean?
