The first Nairobi Documentary Festival looks at Africa’s youngest child, South Sudan.
The inaugural Nairobi Documentary Festival documents life and the lingering crisis in the world’s youngest country which marked 5 yrs of independence in July 2016 amid renewed violence.

Through three documentaries by Kenyan reporters ‘Escape from Bor’ by Frank Odwesso, ‘Lost Generation’ by Ali Ngethi and ‘My South Sudan’ by Robert Lutta, and a series of photographs by Odwesso and Ngethi, the NairobiDocuFest uses both documentary film and photo reportage to chronicle significant events in the story of South Sudan.

British Council invites you to a reappearance of London’s smoky and sensational 1960s jazz scene, for the 25th EU Film Festival, Nairobi.

Join us for Dave Brubeck’s sensational film ‘All Night Long’ with live score by Kenyan saxophonist, Rabai and female drummer, Kasiva Mutua.

‘All Night Long’ features onscreen appearances by jazz legends Charles Mingus and Tubby Haynes.

The European Film Festival is back! This year, the European Film Festival, will be marking the 25th edition of screening EU member states film in Nairobi. The theme for this year is, ‘Integration’ which coincides with the recent wave of immigrants into the European Union mostly stirred by conflict in Syria.

This years festival offers a fantastic selection of films from 16 European countries and includes, the 2016 Oscar winner for the Best Foreign Language Film, Son of Saul.

The sixteenth edition of the Lusophone Film Fest Nairobi will be on the 7-May as of 5pm at the Goethe-Institut Nairobi. We will have a Portuguese documentary about the family left behind when people emigrate, a Brazilian short about a man tormented by his national football team loss in the 1950, and a Mozambican feature film about keeping the balance between the world of the living and the one of the spirits:

– Antonio, Dashing Antonio (Portugal, 2015, Ana Maria Gomes)
– Barbosa (Brazil, 1988, Jorge Furtado and Ana Luiza Azevedo)
– The Last Flight of the Flamingo (Mozambique, 2010, João Ribeiro)

Recognised with international awards at film festivals around the globe, the cinema from the Portuguese-speaking world is still mostly unknown to the general public. This 240 million people linguistic community is a thriving one, promoting over 80 film festivals and cinema awards every year, with movies mostly consumed in the respective countries.

The Lusophone Film Fest is a showcase of the diversity of film production in the eight Portuguese-speaking countries spread across 4 continents. The festival presents multiple works (documentaries, animations, shorts and feature films), in sessions of several films from the different countries.
