Kwani Trust will host a mini tribute to the fallen rapper/poet Gwiji of Ukoo Flani, with thought provoking Hip Hop music by Mwas and Zakah of Ukoo Flani, performances of poetry and dramatized readings from ‘Kwani? 03’ by Poets Monajamonj, Checkmate Mido and writer Aleya Kassam all backed by the band Yellow Light Machine. ‘Kwani? 03’ was one of the first literary publications to feature the urban youth speak poetry called ‘Shen’g’ in a section aptly named ‘Sheng’spere’.

This book featured works by Ukoo Flani members Mc Kah, Kitu Sewer and Gwiji.

To commemorate 20 years of democracy and post-apartheid South Africa, Blankets & Wine in collaboration with the South African High Commission in Kenya present to you a special edition of Blankets & Wine on Sunday, 7th September 2014 dubbed Karibu Mzansi.

Venue: at the Carnivore Gardens

Tickets: KES 2000 at the Gate

Celebrate this milestone with South Africa as you listen to funky tunes from: Vereso Andrew Wambua, Antoneosoul and Dela.

South African foods and wines will also be on sale

The headline artist for this event will be DJ Cleo of the smash hit single Facebook. DJ Cleo is brought to Blankets courtesy of the South African High Commission in Kenya.

Other events will be the DJ Stage with house guru Jack Rooster and the Caffe Mocha crew, Writer’s Stage curated by Kwani? And B&W Film Stage curated by PAWA 254.

Kids’ Paradise is a one of a kind kids’ experience organized with the selective parent in mind.

MAIN FEATURES
– Cars’ Pit Stop Race: Kids will improvise “their own McQueen or Mater” models and then race them.
– Bring your Princess to the Princess Corner, they will have a ball!
– Lots of new toys: Bumper wheels, soccer boppers, sumo bumpers, etc.
