A documentary film introducing five street vendors who are members of the Kenya National Alliance of Street Vendors and Informal Traders (KENASVIT).

The informal sector is part of the economy that is not monitored by any form of the government. In Kenya this sector includes about 2.5 M street vendors and hawkers, representing 7% of Kenya’s population.
The film focuses on their challenges and stories of success as they attempt to represent the informal traders and engage the local authorities in dialogue and work with them to improve their livelihoods.

CrossCulture’s (XC) continue with their Art Series with screenings of the heralded Manet exhibition from the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Dates & Venues: June 7th at Brookhouse School in Karen and June 8th at The National Museum.
Bar opens and open seating begins at 2pm; the screening starts at 3pm.

About
This was the first ever major exhibition devoted to the portraiture of Edouard Manet, spanning his entire career. The exhibition will bring together great works from across Europe, Asia and the USA. XC offers you a chance to see exclusive behind-the-scenes moments of the Royal Academy’s exhibition preparation, moments usually hidden from view and experience a detailed, superbly crafted biography of Manet and 19th century Paris.

This is an exhibition that will be held at the National Museums of Kenya at the Louis Leakey auditorium on the 24th of May. It starts from 10.00am to 6.00pm and the commemoration ceremony soon after from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.

There are going to be diverse art works whose theme falls on remembering the lives lost in events of 2007/2008 post-election violence.

CrossCulture XC brings you the second production in its Theatre Series: National Theatre Live’s broadcast of Frankenstein is coming to NAIROBI. Frankenstein enjoyed a sell-out run at the National Theatre London and went on to win awards including the 2012 Olivier Award for Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller.

Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) directs a sensational production with Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek: Into Darkness, BBC’s Sherlock) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, CBS’s Elementary) alternating roles as Victor Frankenstein and his creation.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.

Brought to you by CrossCulture XC presents Leonardo Live showing the exhibition held at The National Gallery in London, called Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan it was the most complete display of Leonardo’s rare surviving paintings ever held.
This unprecedented exhibition – the first of its kind anywhere in the world – brought together sensational international loans never before seen.

The 80-minute film provides a Full High Definition walkthrough of the exhibit, in depth commentary about featured pieces and a “behind the scenes” look at the process of putting the exhibition together.

Starting this weekend at the Nairobi National Museum, a three week exhibition by art tutor Amimo Kala and art student Tobiko Simon.

Both are inspired by nature, the social space around them and early memories. Amimo exhibits sculptures mainly in Kisii stone that are influenced by his structured life as a teacher while Tobiko, influenced by the 19th century landscape artist John Constable, explores the vast Kaputei plains where he roamed in his early childhood as a herds boy.
