What’s new under the sun exhibition is a result of cooperation between two groups of pupils from the middle school in Tomice, Poland and eight schools in the Mathare in Nairobi.

35 pupils participated in a series of educational workshops during which they had a chance to know each other, to work in tandem on the same topic and to answer some questions: Who am I? What do we need to have to go on a journey together? How do we express our emotions?

The works which came out of these workshops impressed many; the Kenyan and Polish schoolchildren, their classmates, parents, teachers, friends, project coordinators, museum employees and spectators who came to watch out of pure interest.

The Polish- Kenyan exhibition has varying settings. It is presented in four usual-unusual places: a disused building in the Mathare turned into an art gallery, the Nairobi National Museum, the Seweryn Udziela Ethnographic Museum in Krakow, as well as Polish Nobel Laureate Secondary School in Tomice. We look at the works – what do we see? Teenagers’ energy, dreams, emotions, differences and similarities.

“I am afraid of things which have been discovered once and for all. I like the things which stay visible only for a few days”, said the Congolese writer Sony Labou Tansi.

We hope that by visiting this exhibition you too will experience a journey of discovery…

The exhibition will be accompanied by two art workshops for students in cooperation with the National Museum in Nairobi.

Do you know what cultural or sacred sites are? Do you know where they are in Kenya? Do know their value and the challenges facing the kaya forests and other sites as Kenya’s?

All Kenya’s ethnic groups recognized ‘special places’ in their landscapes, places where the normal daily activities of farming, herding or hunting were forbidden or strictly controlled. Such places might be trees, forests, rock outcrops, hills or mountains, and they are often referred to as ‘natural sacred sites’ or ‘natural cultural sites’. Their meanings related to indigenous religions, or locations where ‘first settlement’ by the ancestors of a particular ethnic group occurred, or sites for particular community meetings and rituals.

After the imposition of colonial rule, many cultural sites were destroyed or degraded, but others have survived and are now the focus of conservation efforts by a wide range of stakeholders, from local community members to national and international NGOs and transnational organizations.

To find out the answers to these questions and how cultural forests, rocks and hills can survive in increasingly intensively developed landscapes, you are invited to this intriguing and captivating talk by Dr. Celia Nyamweru, who has been studying Kenya’s natural cultural sites for nearly 20 years, in particular the kaya forests of the Kenya coast.

Bezalel Ngabo realized he had artistic abilities when he was very young. He was born in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kinshasa where he attend the fine arts school, academy des beaux-arts to build his skills. His art later took him to Kenya where he held several exhibitions providing him opportunities to further his career. Bezalel now resides in Nairobi, Kenya. He is married to a beautiful Kenyan lady and is currently a father of one.

Painting is Bezalel’s way of appreciating the beautiful world we live in, especially in Africa to educate his viewers of the basic virtues of life that help contribute in making our world even more beautiful. Painting mainly abstracts, Bezalel draws his inspiration from the Holy Bible, which he believes is a mirror to the human spirit, and from day to day happenings in our society. All his pieces are original and unique.

Jim, is the founder and director of Elephant Neighbours Center (ENC), an NGO that aims to promote peaceful co-existence between elephants and communities, with a mission to protect African elephants and secure their landscape outside protected areas.

Jim has an amazing passion for what he does, peppered with vast experience in elephant conservation as a research scientist and elephant specialist.

We hope that his experience and findings on poaching and the illegal ivory trade and their adverse effects on wildlife will leave you wanting to join in this worthy cause of saving the largest land mammals on earth.

As Kenya marks its Golden Jubilee, celebrating 50 years of independence, the nation will salute its progress and achievements in multiple sectors. Identifying and documenting urban heritage contributes to this celebration by capturing the growth of the nation as evidenced by the edifices in its capital city, Nairobi.

The National Museums of Kenya and the School of Architecture and Building Sciences of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology have partnered to bring you an exhibition on historic buildings in Nairobi to communicate the city’s architectural diversity through visual documentation focused on post-independence architecture.

This travelling photo exhibition have been carefully selected to include historic, architectural, technological, and aesthetic value of buildings. Effort has been made to include a mixture of the known and less known, both of which have been presented in a creative, unique, and informative way.
