Hadithi – An Evening of Music, Spoken Word & Hip Hop Music, Aug. 29 2014 @ National Museum of Kenya

Hadithi will feature performances in spoken word, prose and poetry which will be based on Kenya’s sociopolitical realities. The event is held under the auspices of the Samosa Festival. Stand up Shout Out and Zamaleo Act will reflect the festival’s theme – Mitazamo yetu: Kenyan Perspectives – through their performances.
Performances will be done by Nairobi’s premier poets and story-tellers such as Nuru Bahati, Dorphan Mutuma and Msooh Gittau. With the Stand Up Shout Out Team performing a Skit called Stories of a Nation (Hadithi Za Nchi) written and acted by the Stand Up – SHOUT OUT members; the SUSONIANS!

Contrary to main assumption SAMOSA Festival is NOT a foodie event BUT a festival that was conceived with the idea of bringing Kenyan’s from all walks of life together to celebrate their cultures and heritage.

For centuries, sports fields around the world have been bringing together players from different races, genders, ages and classes. Sporting events are participatory and SAMOSA uses sports as a powerful tool to bring about inclusiveness, confidence, leadership and cooperation.
Sporting activities have also brought individuals and communities together and have helped to bridge ethnic and cultural divides, promote social integration and foster tolerance. Sporting competitions have also helped to reduce tension and generate dialogue in some instances.
Sport teaches the value of effort and how to manage victory, as well as defeat. When the convening powers of sports are emphasized, sport becomes a powerful vehicle through which the SAMOSA message can be actualized.
The SAMOSA 2012 Sports program will focus on bringing people of all backgrounds together on the playing field to celebrate one of society’s most important activity – Play!
Rock n’BBQ with Murfy’s Flaw
Five time Battle of the Bands winners Murfy’s Flaw makes its debut in the wider community at SAMOSA in 2012. A mostly all girl band, Murfy’s Flaw are Reema, Punky Monkey, Jojo, Jozie, Njeri and the band’s only male member – the indomitable Number Nine.
Nairobi’s most famous and popular alternative rock band will thrill SAMOSA fans and the audience in the evening, as they relax and wind down after a day of enlivening sporting activities.
Concert: Sidi Goma, Sep 22 2012 @ Alliance Francaise
The Sidis of Gujarat are a tribal Sufi community of East African origin which came to India eight centuries ago and made India their home. They carried with them their exceptionally rich musical tradition and kept it alive and flourishing through the generations, unknown to the rest of the world.
A traditional occupation of African-Indian Sufis in Gujarat has been to perform sacred music and dance as wandering faquirs. Their native African music styles, lyrics and musical instruments have mingled with local influences to form this final symbolic representation of ‘African-Indian-ness’.
This is the core spirit of SAMOSA Festival and we are extremely excited to bring this powerful and integrated troupe to Kenya to perform for our audience and to work with our artists and youth.
