The Artists’ Open Studio tour is a free, self-guided art adventure that is open to all art lovers, enthusiasts and collectors. It provides the public with an opportunity to interact with Kuona Trust’s painters,sculptors, fiber glass artists, photographers, print makers, jewelers, glass artists, portrait and caricature artists.

You also have a choice of five workshops to take part in throughout the day, including painting for both children and adults, card making, glass mosaic, mural painting and face painting.

All at discounted prices.

Interested in hearing about Nairobi’s great public spaces such as the skating park in the CBD or community places in Kibera? Then join us on Friday the 28th of November to hear more about Placemaking in Nairobi.

Placemaking improves the quality of public spaces and the lives of the community in tandem. It is a co-creation approach that capitalises on local community’s knowledge, assets and ideas to promote inclusive and prosperous cities. The conversation will be facilitated by Placemakers, a Dutch non-profit organization working in-situ to improve public spaces by research, design and programming in co-creation.

Their research is part of the international knowledge exchange program ‘Making Cities Together,’ that aims at connecting and strengthening local scale projects so that they reach a critical mass to effect real change at an urban scale. Making Cities Together is organised by The International New Town Institute, the International Federation of Housing and Planning, and Placemakers.

Placemakers will present the findings of their Placemaking initiatives inventory on public spaces in Nairobi that they conducted in conjunction with the Technical University of Kenya. After presentations there will be round table discussions to share ideas.

Freedom is an exhibition of mixed media sculptures by renowned Zambian artist,Tom Phiri.

About
Phiri explores the concept of ‘Freedom’, using an approach that challenges the co-existence of different forms and the fusion of different techniques and materials; a reflection of the realities of life.
The artist challenges the debate around the ‘freedom’ to co-exist with the opposite elements in society and the respect accorded to these elements.

Phiri presents a body of work that may be interpreted in different ways and he welcomes the audience to explore their personal views.The exhibit is his reaction and contribution to a topic that influences many, ‘Freedom’.

Synopsis: This film presents a heartwarming depiction of the bond between a hard-working older sister and her younger brother, a failed performer. Widowed young, Ginko (Yoshinaga Sayuri) runs a pharmacy and lives with her daughter, Koharu (Aoi Yu), and her mother-in-law, Kinuyo (Kato Haruko). Koharu has plans to marry a distinguished doctor, but out of the blue, Ginko’s long lost brother, Tetsuro (Shofukutei Tsurube), shows up drunk at the wedding, ruining the occasion..
