British Film and Video Artist, Chris Paul Daniels, presents work made in response to his five week residency at Kuona Trust, Nairobi supported by the Triangle Network and Gasworks Gallery (London) International Fellowship Programme.
Chris will have screenings and video installations on view throughout the grounds of the Kuona space and be performing Live Visuals that showcase filmic collaborations, animations and time-lapse studies made during his Residency accompanied by a live musical performance by Ketebul music’s recording artist Ochieng’ Nelly
The video work previews raw unedited footage of a larger documentary piece titled ‘Premier/Divisions’ which will premiere at Kuona Trust at a later date in March and will therefore be VJ’d as a freely improvised and live visual performance in reaction to the music.
About
Chris graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2010 and subsequently won the Deutsche Bank Award for Art for his collaborative film project – ‘Unravel the longest hand painted film in Britain’ (http://unravelfilm.blogspot.co.uk) which has toured over ninety art spaces throughout the UK including Tate Britain, The National Media Musuem and the British Film Institute. He has worked on several international projects in Iceland, Sweden and the Netherlands and screened work extensively in the UK and internationally.
His work in characterised by experimental documentation of shared memories and communal perspectives and this will be reflected in the documentary he has been producing during his first visit to the continent.

On February 17th 2013, take an afternoon to listen to the views of the children.
Children and youth from the slums of Kawangware and Korogocho come together to speak about what is important to them and they can’t wait to have you as their audience at St, John’s Catholic Church in Korogocho.
From Kawangware we have an impressive drama based on the everyday experiences they face at home. We follow the story of 2 children from home and school and see their unique struggle, hopes and dreams.
The Children come from a community organization, Community Organisation Development Youths (CODY) and the drama project is facilitated by Maisha Yangu (www.maishayangu.com), an organization that aims to bring the views and ideas of children forward through art and drama.
The youth of Korogocho have been working on a few short documentaries, dances and art exhibitions through Smiles Africa, (www.smilesafrica.com) a local organization that encourages youth from all over the world to volunteer and intern within the community in a way that directly impacts issues in Korogocho.
The price of Ksh 500 you pay will help us invite more people from the community for the show, as well as make the 3 organisations involved work on more shows this year that encourage children from the slums and streets of Nairobi tell more of their stories through art music and drama.
