The Japan Information & Culture Centre invites you to the screening of the movie “Equinox Flower (Higanbana)” which will be shown on Saturday, October 31, 2015.

Admission is free of charge and the movie screening is open to all film fans.

Synopsis
The family of Hirayama Wataru, a business corporation executive, consists of 4 members, his wife, Kiyoko, eldest daughter, Setsuko, and second daughter, Hisako. Hirayama sympathises with Fumiko, the daughter and only child of his close friend, Mikami, who without the consent of her parents has set up house with her lover. But he does not agree to his own daughter Setsuko’s sudden request to marry a young man named Taniguchi. Hatsu, the owner of a ryokan style hotel in Kyoto which Hirayama patronizes, has comes across a marriage proposal for her daughter, Sachiko, and has come several times to Tokyo for consultation. Sachiko sympathises with Setsuko and helps to push along marriage plans for Setsuko before Taniguchi is transferred to Hiroshima. Hirayama vows he will not attend the wedding ceremony, but his wife finally persuades him to attend. On a trip to Kyoto, Hirayama hears from Sachiko that Setsuko is saddened by the cold attitude assumed by her father. Hirayama feels sorry for is daughter and feeling somewhat sheepish over his previous obstinacies, he heads for Hiroshima where his daughter is living her married life.
