About
The five member rock band ‘Rash’ launch their debut album ‘Only a Few Survivors’. The group began their journey about 3 years ago when a couple of them met as students at the United States International University and discovered their mutual passion for rock music. They call their music ‘swahili rock’ as they fuse distinctively African rhythms to metal music and combine English and Kiswahili languages in their lyrics. Their songs touch on contemporary culture bringing out the good and bad habits of our times. The group is made up of:
Maximiliano Filardi (Max) – lead guitarist, Samuel Warui (Sam) – lead singer, Samuel Gakungu (Gakosh) – drummer, Maina Makundu – bassist, Abed Kariuki – rhythm guitarist. The band has been featured in two documentaries: ‘Un Monde De Métal’ directed by Olivier Richard for France Télévision and ‘My Africa Is’ a critically acclaimed documentary by Nosa Garrick that changes the world’s view of the African continent by highlighting young people living and thriving in various African capitals.
The group has performed in several festivals in Kenya including OktoberFest, Rift Valley Festival, Sondeka Fesitval as well as university events and recently performed at the Nyege Nyege Festival in Jinja, Kampala.
