On this marathon to gender equality, roles are being reversed – men take care of the house and women earn the income.Join one of the film’s director, Javier Triana, on Monday, 28th August at Alliance Française for a public screening of 01:05:12 The Longest Race for the first time in Nairobi.
The film explores how women in Kenya’s Iten, home to many of the best long distance runners in the world, are changing the socioeconomic landscape in their region through athletics. Traditional roles are reversing thanks to the sport of running. Social shifts are being seen at home as an increasing number of men are taking care of the children and cooking to allow their wives the much needed time to train and to rest, in order to perform well at the races and hopefully, bring home prize money.
The story shows how women in the region have been gaining confidence thanks to their victories, be it from the way they dress to the way they invest their money – something they can now decide for themselves.
