BACKGROUND:
The Kenyan play production, “The Caged Bird Sings,” draws parallels between the triumph of the African-American struggle for equality and civil rights and Kenya’s struggle with ethnicity, social justice, economic empowerment and freedom of expression.
“The Caged Bird Sings” is rendered in music, dance and elocution. Composers include world celebrated Moipei Sister, Serephine Moipei, and Terry Wambui, Abdulrazak Ingutia, Claire Etaba, Lindah Manja, Collins Onyango, Wendy Kandra, Josephine Wambui, Charles Chizi Ngambi, George, Marie Wambui, and John Kinyanjui. The production crew includes Nicholas Moipei as Music Consultant, Dennis as Choreographer, and Evans Mbinji as Music Co-Director, among others.
